The Bar Golfing Society

The Bar Golfing Society was founded in 1903 and is open to all members and former members of the Bar of England and Wales.

The Society organises over thirty fixtures throughout the year with the highlight being the tournament which takes place annually in the Whitsun vacation at the end of May-early June. The tournament has previously been held at a variety of Championship Courses including Rye, Deal, Royal St George’s, Littlestone and Hunstanton.  The tournament for 2023 is to be held at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club.

Other fixtures include matches against the Lloyd’s Golf Club, the London Stock Exchange Golfing Society, the Wine Trade and, of course, the Barrister’s Clerks Golfing Society.

The Society currently has 350 members from all aspects of the Bar and welcomes new members including those who are new to the Bar or to the game. There is a £25 annual subscription; if you would like to join please follow the link or contact the Secretary.

The Captain’s Welcome

I joined the Bar Golfing Society in 1995 and was the first woman to play the tournament in 1996. I could not have been made more welcome. Everyone I met was very friendly and supportive. I have made lifelong friends and we have had some wonderful golfing adventures in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and the USA playing the most magnificent courses and laughing together. It helps to have a sense of humour when playing golf and more so in the Bar Golfing Society.

Join now. Login and sign up for the matches and the tournament on the website. You will not regret it.

I look forward to meeting you and playing golf.

Jill Frances
